Los Angeles Dodgers rookie pitcher Gavin Stone (25) was hammered by a hard-hitting Tampa Bay Rays line-up.
Stone gave up seven runs on 10 hits and three walks with seven strikeouts in two innings of work against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field in St Petersburg, Florida, USA, on Monday (29th).
The Dodgers have been without the likes of Julio Urias and Dustin May due to injury, leaving a gaping hole in their starting rotation. As a result, the Dodgers have been calling up prospects such as Stone and Bobby Miller to fill out the starting rotation.스포츠토토
Stone is a highly touted prospect, ranked 43rd in the majors and 4th in the Dodgers according to MLB.com’s prospect rankings. However, since making his big league debut on the 4th, he has struggled with a 14.40 ERA in three games (10 innings).
In this game in particular, he couldn’t handle the Tampa Bay bats and was pulled in the third inning. After giving up singles to Wander Franco and Harold Ramirez in the first to put runners on second and third, Stone gave up an RBI single to Isaac Paredes to open the scoring.
The bigger crisis came in the second inning, when the Dodgers rallied to take a 3-1 lead in the top of the second, but Stone gave up a 3-7 lead in the bottom of the inning on a Jose Ciri triple, Luke Reilly RBI single, Franco RBI single, Brandon Lowe RBI single, Ramirez RBI single, Paredes RBI double, and Josh Lowe RBI single. Stone, who threw 57 pitches, was replaced by Phil Bickford in the third inning and finished the night.
The Dodgers bats didn’t go down easy, pounding out 12 hits and five home runs. The game was tied at 10-10 through six innings. But Franco’s RBI single in the seventh made it 10-11. Chris Taylor went 3-for-3 with two home runs, two doubles, three RBIs and two walks, while Max Muncy, J.D. Martinez and Tracy Thompson also homered in the loss.
