AIPS announced on the 2nd (Korean time) through a letter in the name of Chairman Gianni Melo that “Chairman Yoon has been awarded the ‘A life in Sport’ achievement award at the 2023 AIPS Sports Media Awards.” AIPS, which has 161 countries and 10,000 sports reporters as members, has been awarding the Sports Media Awards since 2018, and Chairman Yoon is the first Asian to receive the Achievement Award.
AIPS said, “Chairman Yoon, the founder of Korea’s first private terrestrial broadcaster, has left a significant footprint in the development of Korean sports over the past 30 years as a sports administrator and sports broadcaster.” It has contributed greatly to sports exchanges,” he explained the reason for the selection.
Beginning with the head of the Seoul Handball Association in 1981, President Yoon served as the first president of the professional basketball KBL and the president of the Korea Golf Association, contributing to the revitalization of professional basketball and popularization of golf. He was also the chairman of the Gangwon-do People’s Association Central Committee and devoted himself to hosting the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, and was awarded the ‘Blue Dragon’ of the Sports Medal.
