LG Twins infielder Song Chan-eui (24) flew from Australia all winter long.
Song Chan-eui finished last season and played the 2022-2023 season as a member of Geelong Korea in the Australian Professional Baseball League (ABL). Last year, he attracted attention by boasting his strength by hitting 6 homers in 12 demonstration games, but it was after swallowing regret that he only had a batting average of 0.236 (17 hits in 72 at-bats), OPS 0.699, 3 homers and 10 RBIs in 33 regular season games.
He led the batting line as Geelong Korea’s central hitter. In 28 games, Song Chan-eui had a batting average of 0.324 (33 hits in 102 at-bats), 7 homers, 24 RBIs, and an OPS of 0.979. He maintained a batting average close to 40% throughout the season and was beaten at the end, but in the first and second rounds, he was selected as the best hitter of the week in a row and spent a memorable time personally. 안전놀이터
Yeom Gyeong-yeop, the new LG coach, picked Song Chan-eui along with Lee Jae-won (24) as the players to watch this year. Director Yeom said, “Song Chan-ui also has the talent and ability to become an important player in LG. Song Chan-ui has to think about his position in order to come to the first team. I will discuss with the club what kind of position I can receive opportunities in the team and whether I can grow.”
Lee Jae-won and Song Chan-eui, who joined the team in 2018, are showing off their skills little by little as right-handed hitters who are lacking in the team. If the two hitters open their eyes to hitting on the first team stage side by side this year, it is expected to be of great help to LG’s firepower.
At the end of last season, LG swallowed regret by handing over fourth hitter Chae Eun-seong (33) to the Hanwha Eagles. Chae Eun-seong chose a new challenge by signing a free agent contract with Hanwha for 6 years and 9 billion won. As Chae Eun-seong left, LG took on the task of filling the gap between the first baseman and the right-handed gun.
Song Chan-eui is expected to jump into the competition to find a new owner for first baseman Chae Eun-seong is missing this spring. If necessary, he can play as a corner outfielder while taking advantage of his batting strength. It is clear that Song Chan-eui is a card that can create various options for coach Yeom to plan for the new season.
