Italian coach Stefano Labarini will take the helm of Fenerbahçe, the Turkic women’s volleyball team.
“Fenerbahçe Women’s Volleyball Team has signed a contract with head coach Stefano Labarini for the new season,” Fenerbahçe announced on its official website on the afternoon of 7 July.
On the same day, Fenerbahçe said goodbye to Zoran Terzić, who led the club for five years from the 2018-19 season. The club also announced the appointment of Lavarini.
Previously, Lavarini’s contract with Italian women’s top flight club Novara had been terminated. His contract ran until June 2024, but he decided to hang up his boots early. At the same time, Turkish media outlet Turktime reported on the 25th of last month that “Fenerbahçe and coach Lavarini have reached an agreement on the contract”.메이저사이트
Daniele Santarelli, who recently became the head coach of the Turkiye women’s national volleyball team, has also been linked with a move to Fenerbahçe. However, Santarelli will be accompanied by Imoco Corneliano at the Italian giants. Another candidate, Lavarini, eventually took over at Fenerbahce.
Despite his lack of playing experience, Labarini has worked his way up through the ranks in Italy, starting as a manager. In 2017, he took charge of Minas in Brazil, where he had a remarkable run and captured the attention of the world. In 2019, he took charge of the South Korean women’s national volleyball team and led them to the quarter-finals of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Lavarini has since coached top teams in Italy. Now, for the first time, she is taking over in Turkuye.
Fenerbahçe signed Melissa Vargas (Turkuye) during the 2022-23 season, when they were crowned league champions and finished third in the CEV Champions League. They have a solid roster for the new season, including veteran middle blocker Eda Erdem (Turkiye) and star outside hitter Arina Fedorovtseva (Russia). They are still the favourites to win the title.
